taxidermyo to all my fellow taxidermists. Hope business is picking up for you, and wishing you the best of luck on your hunts this season.
I would like to pass on a great tip on detailing the antlers and horns of your finished mounts. It was passed on to me by a longtime friend and CAT member/board member Mr. Ed Rude, of Redding Calif.
Upon your final grooming steps, and antler/horn clean up; moisten a clean sponge with warm clean water & squeeze out the excess. Dispense a small amount of Mop & Glow (liquid floor finish) onto the sponge and wipe down the antlers/horns. Try to avoid drips onto the finished head. I like to thoroughly rinse the sponge out after completing one side. Repeat, on the other side.
I like to use a sponge that has a scrub side & sponge side. It's very important to lightly scrub and thoroughly clean (with warm water) both sides of the horns or antler rack, prior to the Mop & Glow treatment. This removes any hide paste, blood, dirt, ect. This technique may appear too glossy at first, but when it dries, it's beautiful!
This technique really brings out the natural depth & color of the horns or antlers.
Good luck & take care, Gary
